         We understand that a successful business is important to have but what are some ways you can create a successful business? Here are 12 tips from Bill Marriott, owner of Marriott International Inc., to help you stay on track or continue to create a successful business. This is not limited to strictly travel agents or event planners, which is where I learned these tips. These practices are useful to anyone who wants to be successful in the world of business.

  1. Continually challenge your team to do better.

  2. Take good care of your employees and they’ll take good care of your customers, and the customers will come back.

  3. Celebrate your people’s success, not your own.

  4. Know what you’re good at and mine those competencies for all you’re worth.

  5. Do it and do it now. Err on the side of taking action

  6. Communicate. Listen to your customers, associates, and competitors.

  7. See and be seen. Get out of your office, walk around, and make yourself visible and accessible.

  9. It’s more important to hire people with the right qualities than with the specific experience.

  10. Customer needs may vary, but their bias for quality never does.

{My thoughts on a few of these tips}

#8 Success in the Details:

          Always remember to check and double check the emails you send, attachments you add and spelling of everything. It’s so unprofessional to make mistakes on the simple things that can easily be avoided. Simple mistakes like adding an incorrect email, or attaching the incorrect document to an email can cost you an important client.

#12 View every problem as an opportunity to grow:

          Of course it is always better to avoid problems during business practices but sometimes problems just happen. No matter what mistakes you make, which there will always be mistakes, learn from them. Treat these mistakes as life or business lessons. Make notes of them to refer to when you are in a “pickle” again to unsure that you are able to work through a problem.
